OVERVIEW OF MISSION
The High Commission for the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, established on August 31, 1962, is one of the first overseas missions established by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago. The Mission is significant in that it is strategically placed in one of the most important political and economic capitals of the world, and represents a major transit hub for most European, Middle Eastern, Far East and African destinations.
The High Commission is accredited to the Court of St. James’s, along with one hundred and eighty-three (183) other countries, the Federal Republic of Germany, the Kingdom of Sweden, the Republic of Finland, the Kingdom of Denmark, and the Kingdom of Norway. The Mission is also accredited to key multilateral and commodity based organisations headquartered in London, principal of which is the Commonwealth.
The Mission also represents to foreign interests and governments the views and opinions of the Government and people of Trinidad and Tobago in the international organisations to which it is accredited. In that regard, the mandate of the High Commission is spread across wide crosscutting areas, namely Bilateral and Multilateral relations, Consular and Student Services, Trade and Business Facilitation, Public Affairs, Culture and Tourism, and Immigration Services.
The High Commission is accredited to the Court of St James’s, the Federal Republic of Germany, the Kingdom of Sweden, the Republic of Finland, the Kingdom of Denmark and the Kingdom of Norway. The High Commission acts as liaison between the secretariats of the multilateral organisations in London and the relevant Ministries in Trinidad and Tobago, articulating the interests of Trinidad and Tobago within multilateral organisations and commodity agreements in the United Kingdom, through active participation in the work of the following organisations:
- The Commonwealth;
- International Maritime Organization (IMO);
- International Oil Pollution Compensation Funds (IOPC);
- CAB International (CABI); and
- International Cocoa Organization (ICCO).
The High Commission provides consular services to nationals and non-nationals alike, who seek assistance for legalized documents, notary services, and/or other areas of general assistance. The Mission also facilitates the authentication of pension certificates for pensioners with life and national insurance certificates.
An area of significant importance is support to nationals on government-funded scholarships in the United Kingdom. The High Commission is the first point of contact and remains the channel of support to students at British Universities. In that connection, the High Commission acts as a liaison between the Scholarships and Advanced Training Division (SATD) of the Ministry of Education and Universities regarding payment of tuition invoices, and between the SATD and the student regarding the payment of personal allowances.

Trade and Business FacilitationThe Trade and Business Facilitation Division lends support to the Ministry of Trade and Industry in the furtherance of the objectives outlined in the official policy framework of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago as they pertain to trade, industry and investment.
In that regard, the Division is responsible for, inter alia, collating and forwarding information that could adversely affect the economic objectives of Trinidad and Tobago; encouraging and facilitating linkages between local manufacturers and exporters with the diaspora; and promoting Trinidad and Tobago as a place for investment and leading country within the Latin American and Caribbean region.
The Division’s activities are broad in scope as they seek to promote all aspects of business in Trinidad and Tobago, and network with other non-energy development agencies to promote investment opportunities in the non-energy and downstream energy sectors.

The PACT Division is tasked with initiating and sustaining an outreach programme that positively projects and promotes Trinidad and Tobago as the ideal country to visit and live. To that end, the Division disseminates information to its stakeholders on Trinidad and Tobago, and seeks to embrace, inform and include the diaspora in the United Kingdom as well as the countries to which the Mission is accredited.

The High Commission was the first Mission to issue the Machine Readable Passport, which service began in November 2008. In that connection, the Immigration Division provides immigration support to nationals and non-nationals alike, including issuing passports and visas.
