What is the focus of the Multilateral Relations Division?

The Multilateral Relations Division monitors the activities of international organizations, with a view to recommending policy; seeks to strengthen Trinidad and Tobago’s participation at multilateral fora; provides advice to other Ministries and para-statal agencies within Trinidad and Tobago, as well as overseas Missions  on issues being addressed by the respective international organizations.  The Division also facilitates access to information, services and assistance available at international organizations and interfaces with Offices of international organizations resident in Trinidad and Tobago.

What is the structure of the Division?

At present, the Division’s work is divided among the following three Units, which were established in 2008:

• Economic and Environmental Unit, which addresses, inter alia, WTO matters and major economic and environmental issues on the international agenda;
• Commonwealth, Political and Institutional Affairs Unit, which, in addition to focusing on Commonwealth matters, addresses, inter alia, political issues before the United Nations, such as Security Council and United Nations reform, special political questions, major conflicts and financial and administrative matters facing the United Nations and the Commonwealth; and.
• International and Human Security Unit, which addresses issues of sustainable human development and human security.
