Rayanna Monsegue, of Valencia Secondary School is the winner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Communications “2nd Future Diplomats” Essay Competition. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Communications honoured 20 winners of the Essay Competition on Wednesday 18th January, 2012. 142 students from 53 Secondary Schools within Trinidad and Tobago participated in the competition which was conducted during the period 19th September, 2011 to 28th October, 2012. These figures represent 14% increase in participating students and 40% increase in participating schools respectively. This shows that the interest in the competition is growing. Recognising that the youth of the nation are the leaders of tomorrow, the essay competition was designed to provide an opportunity for students to contribute to discussions on international relations. In this regards, the theme for the “2nd Future Diplomats” Essay Competition was influenced by the United Nations Assembly proclamation of 2011 as the International Year for People of African Descent by resolution 64/169. The Ministry congratulates all the winners and thanks all the students and schools for participating in the “2nd Future Diplomats” Essay Competition.
